BDI Expands Soma Collection to Offer Flexible Workspace Solutions for the Whole Home

Intros Include New Lift Tables and Powered Lift Desks

CHANTILLY, Va. — Oct. 21, 2022BDI, a premiere furniture designer and manufacturer of office, storage, and entertainment solutions, has expanded on its well-received Soma Compact Lift Desk design to offer new flexible solutions for every space in the home.

Designed by Jeff Bare, BDI will debut two new pneumatic lift table designs as well as motorized standing desks within the Soma collection. These intros will showcase at the October High Point Market in BDI's showroom, IHFC Design Center, #536.

"The expansion of our Soma Collection offers a wider array of options for consumers who want the flexibility to work from anywhere in their home," said Bare. "Each model boasts an elegantly smooth and curved design that immediately elevates the space, yet each is also packed with thoughtful features that mean they can rise to the occasion as an on-demand workspace."

The newest introductions include:

Soma Lift Tables

When available workspace is at a premium, the touch of a lever transitions the Soma Lift Tables into an unexpected work surface.

Available in a Coffee Table and Console Table design, the new Soma Lift Tables use a non-powered pneumatic column to adjust the height of the tables—quickly and easily transforming them from living surfaces to standing workspaces and back again.

The Soma 1130 Coffee Table measures 43.5W x 27.25D in. and can adjust the height from 19–28 in. Soma 1133 Console Table measures 43.5W x 15D in. and can adjust the height from 28.5–42.5 in. Other features include:

  • The collection's smooth edges double as a soft design aesthetic while offering a comfort-edge work surface for ergonomic wrist support

  • Pressing on a non-powered lever releases the pneumatic column, allowing users to raise or lower the tables to the perfect height

  • Accessible from either side, Soma Lift Tables boast a lower ledge that offers the perfect spot to stash remotes, magazines, or a laptop for easy access

  • Finger pulls and floor glides make the tables easy to relocate and move up close

  • The weighted base provides a strong foundation, no matter the desk height

Some Lift Desks

Executively styled but with features that make them ready for play, Soma Lift Desks are a new take on sit-stand desks.

Available in two sizes to accommodate a variety of office spaces, Soma Lift Desks feature a proprietary digital control paddle, which can be positioned on either side of the standing desks. With a gentle push or pull, the user can sleekly control the desk's movement to the ideal sitting or standing height. A single button guides you through the programming of customizations like memory settings, upper/lower height limits, and selecting between standard and metric measurements. Other safety features include an anti-collision sensor and child lock.

Soma 6351 Lift Desk measures 60W x 31D in, while Soma 6352 Lift Desk measures 72W x 31D in. Both can adjust in height from 24.25–49.75 in. Other features include:

  • Design incorporates Soma's beautifully contoured edges, which also provide wrist support and relief during extended typing sessions

  • Signature rounded details flow through the desk—from its top to its rolled base

  • An underneath storage hook can be hung on either side for easy access to headphones or a bag

  • Includes several innovative cable management features, such as:

    • A magnetic cover on the desktop that conceals a channel to route wires and charging cables

    • Wire wraps on the back and underside of the desk for cables

    • A wire management cradle underneath hides all wires or can be easily released for access

  • The included surge protector can be mounted on either side of the desk. The strip includes 3 AC outlets, 1 USB-A, and 1 USB-C connection

  • An optional storage drawer has a flip-down front for use with an enclosed keyboard and mouse

  • The drawer is lined to provide wrist comfort, act as a mousepad and keep contents in place, and also boasts side compartments to keep pens and smaller items secure when the drawer is in motion

All new Soma designs are available in either Ebonized Ash or Natural Walnut finishes and will start shipping in Q4 2022.
